BING is a networking organization for graduate-level professionals and academics who are living and working in Boston. We offer a platform where our members can meet and connect with like-minded others for friendship and activity-sharing, as well as academic/professional networking. We hope to eventually expand beyond Boston and the U.S. and become an international network of graduate-level professionals and academics, with local branches in major cities of various countries. Our name is meant to convey the international nature of our organization.
IN-PERSON EVENTS
Our members will be invited to in-person social and cultural events in the Boston area - social mixers, dinner outings, performing art events and sports events (Tennis & soccer games, hiking and ski trips, etc.), lectures, and other forums for meeting and connecting with each other. They will also have access to both online profiles and discussion forums where they can interact with each other more directly.
Our hope is to eventually have our own physical location where people can gather. But for now, our events will take place in public settings.
ACTIVITY GROUPS
We have a number of Activity Groups planned:
1. ARTLOVERS GROUP - will organize outings to museums and art shows.
2. ARTS & CRAFTS GROUP - will organize art and craft-making events.
3. BOOK & POETRY READING GROUP - will organize book discussions and poetry reading events.
4. DANCE GROUP - will organize outings to dance events (tango, salsa, swing, bachata, line dancing, etc.)
5. GAMES GROUP - will organize board game nights, billiard, bowling outings and more.
6. GOURMET TASTING GROUP - will organize outings for fine dining and tasting experiences of various kinds (wine, cheese, chocolate).
7. LEARNING GROUP - will organize lectures, seminars, discussion groups and other events geared toward learning & intellectual exchange.
8. LIVE PERFORMANCE GROUP - will organize outings for live music, dance performances, plays and more.
9. MINDFULNESS GROUP - will organize meditation and yoga sessions as well as other experiences geared toward mindfulness.
10. SPORTS GROUP - will organize Tennis meets, soccer games, volleyball games, badminton games, pickle ball games and more.
11. WALKING & HIKING GROUP - will organize city walks and nature walks and hikes.
12. WINTER FUN GROUP - will organize outings for ice skating, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and sledding.
LAUNCH DATE
Our site will be officially launching in the Fall of 2023 and will try to build its membership over the coming year. So please invite your friends and colleagues and also sign up for our activity groups as participating members or request to become an admin for one so you can organize the events that you want.
MEMBERSHIP
This social networking site has been created for individuals who have pursued graduate studies in the Arts & Sciences, including Medicine, Law, the Social Sciences, Humanities and the Fine Arts. In order to become a member, we ask that you show proof of any of the following:
- a link to your LinkedIn profile
- a copy of graduate diploma or certificate
- an ID from your place of work
- a copy of your professional licensure
- any of these items would qualify you to sign up.
MEMBERSHIP FEE
During the time period when our organization is establishing itself, which might take anywhere from 6 to 12 months, your membership will be free. Once our membership has built up adequately to allow for organized activities, we will start charging a modest monthly/yearly membership fee. Our objective is to maintain ease of access to our network while covering our costs.
